From beginning to end, your wedding day will be full of important and emotion-filled moments. When you’re choosing how many hours of photography coverage you’ll need, it’s important to think about which parts of the day you know you’ll want photos of.
In recent years, one of the parts of the wedding day that couples have been choosing to document more is the time they spend getting ready. Before the guests arrive and the wedding festivities get under way, many brides and grooms choose to get ready with their bridesmaids and groomsmen, respectively. This is one of my favorite parts of the day because of the sweet moments that happen during it. From the excitement of your bridesmaids and closest friends, to the tears in your family’s eyes as they see you in your dress for the first time, this part of the day is full of some very special moments.
If you aren’t quite sure whether or not you want getting ready photos, no worries- I’ve got you! These are some of the things couples love most about getting ready pictures. If you’re on the fence about whether or not you need getting ready photos, these points can help you decide whether or not those photos are right for you!
Many people feel nervous about being photographed on their wedding day- it’s so common and totally natural! But that doesn’t mean you have to feel that way throughout your entire day. So what’s a great remedy for those nerves?
Having getting ready photos done can make a world of difference for you and leave you feeling less nervous about being photographed during the rest of the day! Getting ready tends to be one of the calmer parts of the day, where you can get used to having a photographer around for a couple hours before the ceremony. This is a huge stress reliever for you, since by the time your ceremony and formal portraits come around, you’ll be comfortable and familiar with your photographer! This is especially helpful if you didn’t do an engagement session with your wedding photographer.
Most of the getting ready photos you’ll be taking won’t be posed. Instead, they’ll be documentation of the little moments that naturally happen. Whether you’re sharing a laugh with your maid of honor, or your mom is putting your veil on you before you walk out for your first look with your fiance, this time of the day is all about capturing those candid moments. If candid wedding photos are your favorite thing, I would strongly suggest thinking about having some getting ready photos taken.
Some of the sweetest getting ready photos are from doing a reveal with your bridesmaids after you put your wedding dress on. This tends to be especially emotional if this is the first time most, or all, of your girls have seen you in your dress. The excitement and tears of joy from your best friends are so touching and make for photos that you will treasure for a long time after your wedding day. These photos in particular capture so much of the friendship and special relationships you have with each of your girls.
Equally as beautiful is a reveal with one, or both, of your parents. The emotion in that moment is hard to put into words. It’s so much love, adoration, pride, and a little bit of disbelief all spilling out at once. These are some of the wedding photos that so many of my couples hold close to their hearts.
If your wedding day details are something you especially want photographed, the best opportunity to get a wide variety of these and make sure all those details get documented is when you’re getting ready. Typically, I’ll arrive while my brides are still having their makeup done and begin taking detail photos. After all, photos with half a face of makeup on tend not to be the most flattering! When you choose to do getting ready photos, it guarantees that we’ll have enough time to capture all those pretty little details that you’ve put so much thought into choosing.
So, in summary, if you want:
then getting ready photos are something you will want to highly consider having! I’ll help you build this into your wedding day timeline so we can guarantee all those special moments are documented for you to cherish!
I hope these points have made it easier for you to determine whether or not getting ready photos are something you want for your wedding day! They are definitely one of my favorite parts of the wedding day for the candid moments they show and the stories they tell.
