After months, sometimes even years, of planning your wedding down to the last little detail, the big day is finally here! You’ve invested so much time and care into making sure all the details look great for your wedding- now it’s time to make sure they’re never forgotten!
When your wedding photographer arrives to photograph you getting ready, detail shots are typically the starting point. That way, we give you more time to finish getting your hair and makeup done- most of my brides would agree that they don’t want photos with a half-finished face of makeup haha!
So, what should you include in your detail shots? Any of the little things that make your wedding unique to you two. Think about anything you’ve personally selected and put together for your big day. This includes things such as your flowers/boutonnieres, custom ring boxes, your invitation suite, and more. I especially encourage you to set aside any family heirlooms you may be using on your wedding day so we can include these in the detail shots. So if you’re wearing a special bracelet from your grandmother, or if your fiancé will be wearing cufflinks that his dad gifted to him, let’s make sure these all get photographed! I’ll ask you about all of this in your pre-wedding questionnaire, so if you have any details that are especially near and dear to your heart, I’ll make sure nothing gets missed when we do your detail shots!
Besides what we’ve already talked about, what are some other things you may want included in your wedding detail photos? I have a basic wedding detail photo list below. As an experienced Tucson wedding photographer, these are the things I’ve found most of my brides have loved to get photos of! We can customize it based on anything else special that you may have for your wedding day, but let’s start with the basics.
Let’s start with some of the bridal details that will be photographed on your wedding day. These can include:
The Wedding Dress
Because how could we not get a stunning photo of that gorgeous wedding dress?! We’ll take some detail photos of the full dress, but we can also include other items in the photo (such as shoes). Also, if there’s an aspect of your dress that made you fall head-over-heels in love with it (like the lace details), let me know and I’ll get some pictures of that up close!
Your Custom Wedding Dress Hanger
If you choose to have a custom hanger made for your dress, we’ll definitely include this in your set of detail photos too! (p.s. I highly recommend these- they look great in photos and are a fun keepsake from your wedding day.)
Your Rings
As part of the bride’s detail photos, we’ll take pictures of all of the rings together. This typically includes the engagement ring, bride’s wedding band, and groom’s wedding band.
The Ring Box
Especially if you choose to get one custom made, ring boxes make a great addition to your detail shots! Chen and Harmony had this custom wooden ring box, and it added a really personal touch to their wedding photos- I loved it, and so did they!
The Invitations
Many couples spend so much time picking the perfect invitations for their wedding day, so we’ll make sure these don’t get overlooked either! I’ll style some photos of your wedding invitations so you’ll always be able to remember them.
Your Bouquet + Wedding Florals
We can’t forget about one of the most special details of all- your bouquet! You’ve been anxiously waiting to see that beautiful bouquet for so long, and I’ll make sure we preserve all its beauty with plenty of photos.
Jewelry
If you choose to wear additional jewelry, such as a bracelet, earrings, or a necklace, we’ll include these in the detail photos too! Never hurts to have some close-up photos of that bling!
Perfume
Brides put a lot of thought into selecting just the right perfume to wear on their wedding day. As a bonus, the pictures will help you remember what scent you chose; Rewearing it for special occasions or date nights helps you bring back the memory of one of the best days of your life!
Hair Pieces and the Veil
If you have a hair piece or veil to wear on your wedding day, we can use these to accent and stylize some of your other detail photos, too!
Shoes
Last but not least for the bridal details, your shoes! Your wedding shoes are a very personal choice and reflect your style, so whether you’ve got a sparkly pair of high heels or you’ll be rocking a pair of Converse, we’ll make sure they’re documented!
Of course, we can’t forget the groom’s detail photos! Here are some shots that we’ll typically take for the groom:
The Boutonniere
The groom gets to enjoy some of those wedding day florals, too, with a well-designed boutonniere for the special occasion! This will also help add some harmony to the bride and groom’s detail photos.
Cologne
Just like for the bride, choosing a fragrance to wear is something the groom puts a lot of thought into! We’ll make sure your groom can always remember the cologne he chose for your wedding day, and you two can rewear those fragrances for special occasions and fun date nights!
Cufflinks
If he chooses to wear cufflinks, we’ll ensure that we get photos of that special touch.
Shoes
Many grooms choose to treat themselves to some stylish new shoes for their wedding day. We’ll make sure we create some detail shots with the groom’s shoes included!
Flasks
Custom flasks are a great way to add a personal touch to the detail photos. If these are something you choose to have made for your wedding, I’ll make sure to document them so you can always remember them!
I hope this list has been helpful in determining what details to set aside for your photos, and that it will help you feel more prepared when your wedding day comes around!
